Strategic Communications
Johns Hopkins University stands apart as a trusted research institution, bringing to bear the expertise and innovation of its faculty, students, and staff on the greatest challenges facing our world and our communities. In all aspects of its tripartite mission of education, clinical care, and discovery, Johns Hopkins University provides Knowledge for the World.
The strategic communications team identifies initiatives and strategies to fulfill the university’s mission and goals, and works with colleagues to advance the institution’s reputation as a leading educator and employer, and home to world-class patient care and interdisciplinary research.
Recent examples of our work include:
Issues management
We convene a diverse range of stakeholders to develop and execute strategic plans to enhance the reputation of the institution and take advantage of reputational opportunities, prepare for and respond to crises, and manage complex communications moments in ways that advance the university’s mission of research, education, patient care, and service to our communities.
Internal communications
No audience is more important to us than the university’s vibrant and diverse community of faculty, staff, and students. With email and the Hub at Work website, we provide vital information about university operations, news that affects day-to-day lives and instills pride in our work, and resources and benefits that can make work and life more productive and rewarding. We also celebrate the vital work done by staff and help produce the monthly HR NewsWire newsletter and major administrative reports.
Virtual events
We offer strategic guidance and support for external and internal livestream and virtual event programming, and provide data and analytics tools to help university divisions track and measure their online reach and impact. We work with university stakeholders and offices to produce major university events, including town halls, Commencement ceremonies, and conferences. Our team also helps produce regular programming such as the Johns Hopkins Health Policy Forum, the Coronavirus Resource Center’s 30-Minute Live Briefing, and the Johns Hopkins Congressional Briefing. Among our streaming platform options are IBM Cloud Video, YouTube, Vimeo, and Facebook.
